Games Done Quick is a semiannual video game speed-run charity marathon. Players compete and try to speed-run video games, while accepting challenges funded by the viewers donations! Anyone can sign up as a runner, but you need to submit a the games you’d like to run, video showing off your skills, and short piece about why you think you could stack up as a runner. Watching gamers speed run is a very entertaining and quite impressive feat. These events have been held since 2010, and with sixteen marathons in total so far they have raised over $10,000,000.00. It’s safe to say they’re doing something right!

The AbleGamers Foundation is an organization set out to bring inclusion and improved quality of life for people with disabilities through the power of video games. They are looking to assist a person with disabilities based on their specific needs. The way they put it is if you take 10 people with the same disability, roughly the same age, you’ll find there is still a slight to moderate difference in the abilities of each person. AbleGamers takes a look at each persons individual needs and determines a course of action to bring the inclusion of gaming into their life. They have been able to develop techniques and technologies you’ve probably never heard of or seen before, and it’s all through the power of this organization.


2. Child’s Play

Child’s Play is another extraordinary foundation which benefits over 100 hospitals world wide (135 at the time of this post). As stated on their website, they seek “to improve the lives of children in hospitals and domestic violence shelters through the generosity and kindness of the video game industry and the power of play.” With Child’s Play conception back in 2003, they have raised to date over $44,000,000.00. This is proving them to be a power house in the video game/charitable organization industry. Extra-Life is another fundraiser where you can go alone, or sign up with a team, but the idea is to get together and game! Your goal is to take part in the worldwide 24-hour stream. You stream your play from home, online, wherever you can, on whatever day works for you. It enables you to raise funds and have fun while helping kids at your local hospital. Their website puts it best, “Extra Life unites thousands of players around the world in a 24 hour gaming marathon to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $30 million for local CMN Hospitals.” $30,000,000.00! The amounts raised by these Gaming/Charitable Organizations is staggering and just goes to show you the type of community that these gamers really are.
