Cheat codes are cheap. Of course they are, it’s a cheat. It’s a part of their definition. But hot damn do they make some games significantly more fun. Below is our list of 8 of the most memorable cheat codes! Enjoy!
8. The Sims
‘ROSEBUD’ and ‘KLAPAUCIUS’
In The Sims, money is key. These two little cheats were put in to help you along! Enter the cheat mode with CTRL-SHIFT-C and type in either ROSEBUD or KLAPAUCIUS to instantly give yourself 1,000 Simoleons. Keep that Enter button rolling and watch the money pile up.
7. Mortal Kombat
Ah, the blood code. This was a game changer (not really, but definitely awesome). On the SNES, the same code makes sweat come out on uppercuts, not blood, so I think it’s safe to say the Genesis was the way to go on this one. First you enter the Code of Honor screen, then using the controller, input A, B, A, C, A, B, B, then you proceed to ripping Liu Kangs head off and watching the blood just drip.
6. Sonic 2
This had to be one of the craziest cheat codes I remember using, and it took quite a bit to get it working. Whatever amount of work it took though, definitely worth it. You could put items wherever you like, make Sonic different items from the game, or really just about anything. Ever completed Sonic as one of the rings Sonic tries so hard to collect? No? Well now you can!
To do this one, you have to go to the options menu and find your way to the sound test. Next you want to play these songs in this exact order: 19, 65, 09, and 17. Now press Start and exit. After the game starts up again, hold A and press Start. Now you have to play these songs in this exact order: 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4. Now before you select a stage, hold A and press Start. Now, enjoy!
5. NBA Jam
This has been a running option from the beginning of the franchise, and still continues with any new installments of the game. Entering the specific name code unlocks that character, from Mortal Kombat’s Reptile to U.S. President Bill Clinton, and even Barack Obama in the newer ones. Having a blast in this cartoonish style basketball was made all the more fun by playing as characters you wouldn’t imagine you could play as.
